Beauty therapy may be a profession more commonly associated with the female of the species, but the latest addition to the team at Jesmond Beauty Clinic is helping to redress the balance and prove that, sometimes, you just can’t beat a man’s touch.

There’s no stopping Jesmond Beauty Clinic – a year on from relocating to a fantastic new site on Clayton Road in Jesmond, the salon is biting back at the credit crunch and continues to flourish. Not only has it recently launched an alternative therapy centre, JBC Vitality and launched a new mens shaving site, Signature Shaving, but it’s also taken on new staff and introduced the salon’s first ever male therapist, Sebastian Leuschner.
Working at the salon on Saturdays only, while he completes his training at medical school, Sebastian specialises in hot stones massages and offers three different treatments: a back, neck and shoulders massage, a full-body massage or, for the ultimate treat, the full-body, face and head massage that I was lucky enough to try.
Sebastian puts you right at ease from the very moment you step into the sumptuous treatment room, when he’ll firstly go through a brief consultation.
The hot stones massages are a great way to help relieve any aches and pains. The flat basalt stones are heated to temperatures of between 30°C and 40°C and when they’re applied to the body, the heat transfers to the tissues, warming and relaxing them so that the tension can be dispersed through massage.
The treatment uses knot-busting massage techniques that will work wonders – you’ll feel the strain easing from places that you hadn’t realised were tense to begin with.
The treatment leaves you feeling completely relaxed and revitalised – just what the doctor ordered to help you unwind and leave the headaches of Christmas behind.
And if you’re unsure about the idea of having a man knead those knots of tension from your shoulder instead of a woman, take my advice: don’t be. You’d be missing out on a real treat!
